Alison Goldfrapp has set a towering bar for British synth-pop in the 21st century and shes only just getting started. The magnetic London-born singer, songwriter and producers seven albums with Goldfrapp were fuelled by an unfailing modernity and a sixth sense for sounds that were more timeless than any trend. With the release of her debut solo album The Love Inventionan electrifying dance-pop suiteher multi-faceted musicianship reaches a new peak.
The Love Invention marks Alisons reawakening as a dancefloor priestess, in an intoxicating showcase of the disco and house influences that have always been at the heart of her musical DNA. So Hard So Hot bottles the ephemeral joy of a dancefloor with its anthemic house beat, disco handclaps, and an exquisitely alluring vocal from Alison. The sense of uninhibited liberation courses through album highlights like In Electric Blue, a yearning synth-pop confection with a chorus as blissful as loves first butterflies. On Never Stop, she is flooded with the rush of an all-encompassing love over a buoyant, rubberised beat; the sublime synth-pop of Fever is an ode to the intoxicating majesty of the dancefloor, with a chorus that explodes as if setting off a glitter cannon.
Nickel Creek
Celebrants [Indie Exclusive Limited Edition Confetti Yellow 2LP]
Vinyl: $29.98 PREORDER
Their fifth studio album, Celebrants marks a highly anticipated return for the beloved trio and explores the inherent dynamics of human connection. Across the 18 tracks, the trio addresses love, friendship and time with lyrics both poetic and plain-spoken, as they see bridges built, crossed, burned and rebuilt. Recorded at Nashvilles RCA Studio A, the album was produced by longtime collaborator Eric Valentine (Queens of the Stone Age, Grace Potter, Weezer) and features Mike Elizondo on bass.
In celebration of the release, the band will perform three very special sold-out shows at Nashvilles historic Ryman Auditorium this spring on April 27, 28 and 29.
Together a sum of more than their staggering parts, Nickel Creek revolutionized bluegrass and folk in the early 2000s and ushered in a new era of what we now recognize as Americana music. In a 2020 retrospective entitled, The Year Folk Broke: How Nickel Creek Made Americana The New Indie Rock, NPR Music praised, 20 years ago this month, an album arrived that seemed to speak all these languages at once: unafraid to push the boundaries of its primary genre, and packing the musical chops to bring such an eclectic vision to life. Behind it were three musicians just barely old enough to vote and continued, That makes Nickel Creek and its unofficial debut a critical point along a storied timeline, one whose innovations offer countless connections between the genres origins and its future. Once dubbed progressive newgrassers, the three musicians now fit firmly within the ranks of Americana musichowever nebulous, layered and diverse that realm may be. They have only themselves to thank.
After meeting as young children and subsequently earning the respect of the bluegrass circuit for a decade, the trio signed with venerable label, Sugar Hill Records, in 2000 and quickly broke through with their Grammy-nominated, Alison Krauss-produced self-titled LP. Since that effort, the trio has released three more studio albums to date: 2002s This Side, which won Best Contemporary Folk Album at the 45th Grammy Awards, 2005s Why Should the Fire Die? and 2014s A Dotted Line.
Caroline Rose
The Art of Forgetting [Audiophile Collectors Edition Clear Lenticular Cover 2LP]
Vinyl: $50.98 PREORDER
The time is now for Caroline Rose. Their last record, Superstar, was released on March 6, 2020. The record was critically acclaimed and positioned Rose as the next big breakthrough in music. Needless to say, the resulting pandemic grinded all momentum to a halt while at the same time throwing Roses personal life into turmoil. The result of that turmoil is the fuel that fired the creation of their latest album, The Art of Forgetting. With The Art of Forgetting, Rose took on the dual role of writer and producer. The album encapsulates the feeling of experiencing recent memories, having them turn into old ones and then ultimately forgetting those memories altogether. There is a romantic nature within the sonic landscape of this record. Tape effects and loops emulate the feeling of aging while the juxtaposition of modern acoustic-electronic textures, like lo-fi tape next to hi-fi granular synths result in some of their most mature and honest work to date.
Elton John
Honky Chateau: 50th Anniversary [Indie Exclusive Limited Edition Gold LP]
Vinyl: $29.99 PREORDER
Named after the residential studios outside Paris where the album was recorded, Honky Chteau bought a new level of simplicity and directness to Eltons music that had previously only been seen in glimpses. Shorn of the complexities and ornate orchestrations of his recent work, Honky Chateau seemed freewheeling and intimate. It was helped by Rocket Man, the record which became another of Eltons signature songs.
These special editions contain the original album, and on both vinyl and CD editions a newly created selection of outtakes from the sessions, produced from the original tapes by Matt Still, which highlight the warmth and humor of the sessions.
On CD only there are eight tracks from the album that were recorded at the Royal Festival Hall in 1972, all receiving their live debut, just a few days back in the UK after recording. Assembled with the customary care by Eltons catalog team, the album comes as a gatefold with an eight-page booklet with rare photos, memorabilia and an essay by co-curator and music writer Daryl Easlea, featuring interviews from those who were there.
Honky Chteau has been mastered at Lurssen in California, and the vinyl cut at Abbey Road.
Last year BABYMETAL were sealed from the world after a successful 10-year journey. Earlier this year, THE OTHER ONE restoration project began to recover the BABYMETAL we never knew existed within a virtual world called the METALVERSE. The concept album releasing March 24, 2023 reveals the other side of the BABYMETAL story that no one knew existed. A total of 10 songs have been discovered within THE OTHER ONE restoration project, in which each song represents each theme of the 10 parallel worlds that seem to exist. Full length audio of each of the 10 songs will finally be revealed when fans get their hands on the album.
If credibility were currency, FAKE NAMES wealth would be off thecharts. Composed of Brian Baker (Minor Threat, Bad Religion, Dag Nasty), Michael Hampton (S.O.A., Embrace), Dennis Lyxzn (Refused, INVSN,The [International] Noise Conspiracy), Johnny Temple (Girls AgainstBoys, Soulside) and the newest member Brendan Canty (Fugazi, Rites ofSpring), the band is a veritable post-hardcore dream team.
However instead of rehashing the past, Expendables is a reinventionthat sees the band dialing back the distortion and leaning into themelodies. The result pairs their unparalleled pedigree with a popsensibility thats slightly unexpected and wholly satisfying. For our
last record [2019s FAKE NAMES]the general influences were 70s U.K.punk and power-pop; but it wound up with a little classic rock vibe aswell, like the Vibrators meets Aerosmith. We never saw that coming! ,Baker explains.
For Expendables the band enlisted producer Adam Atom Greenspan (IDLES, Yeah Yeah Yeahs). Baker explains, The pop influences are alittle more out front on this one and the production really helps it shine. It sounds more direct, more urgent.Expendables is the latest exchange in a musical conversation that spans four decades. Baker aptly refers to the lineup of FAKE NAMESas a mutual admiration society and says that once the five members got in the same room together, it felt as if they had already been inthe band together for years.
Dear Reader,About a year or two ago, Naomi Yang (of Galaxie 500) reached out to meafter she rediscovered a video that we had made together in 2011, during themaking of Tramp, just before the albums release. It was for the song Serpents. The timing was uncanny, approaching the anniversary of Tramp. Thinkingabout my time in New York while in the bubble of Los Angeles and myhome. Thinking about how restless I was, and now settled down and stable.Thinking about how Aaron Dessner took a chance on me after I messagedhim with a fury of demos. He could see through the hiss and crappy vocalson my GarageBand demos, and that I had something to say. He gave me theconfidence to be loud and to scream my rage and feel founded and justifiedin my own pain. He gave me more tools to find catharsis in my work. I havecarried that with me ever since.
Being on the west coast the last two years, I look back on my communityin New York and am forever grateful. I had so many friends and peers stepup and help me unfold these demos. The album that it became. Doug Keithand Ben Lord from my original touring band, Logan Cole, Peter Silbermanfrom The Antlers, Jessica Larrabee from She Keeps Bees, Thomas Bartlett ofDoveman, Rob Moose of yMusic, Jenn Wasner of Wye Oak, Julianna Barwick,Zach Condon of Beirut, Matt Barrick (of the Walkmen), Clarice Jensen, BenLanz, Bryce Dessner, and Bryan Devendorf (of The National).
I had almost forgotten about a song titled "This Is Too Right" that didnt makeit onto the record. It was one of the first guitar riffs I had ever written andJenn Wasner sang on it with me. A song about not believing how good I had it,like the other shoe was about to drop. I hope everyone that helped make thisrecord and supported it, feel the love and admiration that I continue to holdfor all of you. I hope that in sharing this record again, with a new video andthis forgotten track, that new listeners are brought into this album and findmeaning and relevance in it today. All of the musicians on this album helpedmecome to life and perform in ways I never had before.
May these songs find you well. Sending all my love, Sharon.

Boy Named Banjo
Circles EP [Indie Exclusive Limited Edition Whiskey Smoke Vinyl]
Vinyl: $19.98 PREORDER
In a time when the popular choice is to chase the double yellow line down the road to country radio, Boy Named Banjo thrives on its fringes. The Nashville-raised five-piece is a fusion of contemporary country, Americana and folk-rock stacked on a foundation of bluegrass. The band, which has been together in some iteration since members were in high school, includes Barton Davies (banjo), Ford Garrard (bass/standing bass), Sam McCullough (drums) Willard Logan (mandolin, acoustic/electric guitar) and William Reames (acoustic guitar/harmonica). Reames and Logan played in a middle school garage rock band together, but it wasn't until Reames met Davies in high school that Boy Named Banjo started taking shape. Garrard and McCullough joined later and together the five guys comprise the band Boy Named Banjo that we know today. Boy Named Banjo has crafted a sound that incorporates an energetic blend of country, bluegrass, alt-rock, and folk-pop telling their stories through an honest, emotional, roots-driven perspective. In April 2020, Boy Named Banjo signed a record deal with Mercury Records Nashville and released their debut EP, Circles, the following year. Boy Named Banjo spent 2022 on the road playing some of country musics largest festivals including Dierks Bentleys Seven Peaks and Country Jam, Kip Moores Fire on Wheels Tour, they made their CMA Fest debut playing at the Ascend Amphitheatre Nighttime Concert, and played a sold-out hometown show at Nashvilles Brooklyn Bowl. The band most recently released the tracks Heart In Motion and Heart Attack, and is currently prepping its next project to be released in spring of this year.

The Valley Of Vision [Indie Exclusive Limited Edition Iridescent Blue LP]
Vinyl: $21.98 PREORDER
The Valley of Vision is a 27-minute, breakthrough salvo of six songs that finds the band re-inspired once again, & is accompanied by an album length film shot in VR + 3D computed radiography technology. Andy Hull was inspired to start writing the record while rummaging around in his suitcase looking for his lyric notebook & instead foundThe Valley of Vision, a 1975 book of old Puritan prayers his mom had given to him the previous Christmas. Capital Karma is the first new music from the project.
A Wednesday song is a quilt. A short story collection, a half-memory,a patchwork of portraits of the American south, disparate momentsthat somehow make sense as a whole. Karly Hartzman, the songwriter/vocalist/guitarist at the helm of the project, is a story collector asmuch as she is a storyteller: a scholar of people and one-liners. RatSaw God, the Asheville quintets new and best record, is ekphrastic butautobiographical and above all, deeply empathetic. Across the albums tentracks Hartzman, guitarist MJ Lenderman, bassist Margo Shultz, drummerAlan Miller, and lap/pedal steel player Xandy Chelmis build a shrine tominutiae. Half-funny, half-tragic dispatches from North Carolina unfurlingsomewhere between the wailing skuzz of Nineties shoegaze and classiccountry twang, that distorted lap steel and Hartzmans voice slicingthrough the din.
Rat Saw God is an album about riding a bike down a suburban stretchin Greensboro while listening to My Bloody Valentine for the first time onan iPod Nano, past a creek that runs through the neighborhood riddledwith broken glass bottles and condoms, a front yard filled with brokenand rusted car parts, a lonely and dilapidated house reclaimed by kudzu.Four Lokos and rodeo clowns and a kid who burns down a corn field.Roadside monuments, church marquees, poppers and vodka in a plasticwater bottle, the shit you get away with at Jewish summer camp, strangesentimental family heirlooms at the thrift stores. The way the South humsalive all night in the summers and into fall, the sound of high schoolfootball games, the halo effect from the lights polluting the darkness. Itsnot really bright enough to see in front of you, but in that stretch of inkyvoid somehow you see everything.
The songs on Rat Saw God dont recount epics, just the everyday.Theyre true, theyre real life, blurry and chaotic and strange which isin-line with Hartzmans own ethos: Everyones story is worthy, she says, plainly. Literally every life story is worth writing down, because peopleare so fascinating.

Spelljams [Indie Exclusive Limited Edition Maroon & Purple Galaxy 2LP]
Vinyl: $57.98 PREORDER
For nearly five decades, Dungeons & Dragons has inspired generations of creative people to make movies, novels and, yes, music. Now that relationship is even more distinct with the release today of an album of music created by cutting-edge bands and musical acts all inspired by Spelljammer: Adventures in Space. The far-out storytelling in the worlds greatest roleplaying games latest offering is fertile ground for composing some of the most original songs youll hear this year from bands like Magic Sword, Shabazz Palaces and OSEES. Spelljams features a double LPs worth of tracks from artists all produced by Chris Funk, guitarist from The Decemberists who plays D&D with many folks in the music scene in Portland, Oregon. Chris Perkins, story architect at D&D and lead designer of Spelljammer, worked with Funk to bring the Flash Gordon-esque soundtrack to life.
Produced by Sean Ono Lennon and mixed by Dave Fridmann (Beach House, Spoon, The Flaming Lips) , Temples fourth full-length album takes place in an impossibly utopic island dreamed up by the four band members. With its resplendent collage of psychedelia, krautrock and time-bending dream-pop, Exotico brings that world to life in crystalline detail, all while exploring an entire spectrum of existential themes: impermanence, mortality, our connection with nature and the wild immensity of the mind.
Last years Big Time brought Angel Olsen to a deeper, truer senseof self than ever before. Borne from the twin stars of grief and love, the album delivered beautiful sense of certainty, the sure-footed soundof an artist fully, finally at home with herself. But within that wisdomcomes the realization that there is no finish line, no destination or staticend point to life while youre living it, and Forever Means collects songsfrom the Big Time sessions that hold this common theme. They are, inOlsens words, in search of something else.
I was somewhere traveling, says Olsen, stopped for a few days andwandering the city, and I was thinking what does forever really mean? What are the things Im seeking in friendship or love, and how canforever be attainable if were always changing? Sitting with the realityof that entropy, Olsen realized maybe the secret to ongoing love is toembrace change as part of love itself, that forever must have somethingto do with playing, looking, constantly searching things out for yourself, never letting yourself think youre finished learning or exploring.
Forever, says Olsen, remains curious while trying also to be kindand honest.
All this packs into the four precious songs that comprise ForeverMeans, songs from Olsens roads traveled and the ones ahead.Nothings free / like breaking free Olsen sings, comfortable with thecosts of her clarity, her heart and voice fixed on the present, the future, the not-yet-known and the beautifully unknowable.
The Tallest Man On Earth
Henry St. [Indie Exclusive Limited Edition Translucent Red LP]
Vinyl: $25.98 PREORDER
Kristian Matsson has never remained in one place for very long. Having spent much of thelast decade touring around the world as The Tallest Man on Earth, Matsson has captivatedaudiences using, as The New York Times describes, every inch of his long guitar cord toroam the stage: darting around, crouching, stretching, hip-twitching, perching briefly andjittering away...Mr. Matsson is a guitar-slinger rooted in folk, and his songs are troubadourballads at heart.
Now, Matsson returns as The Tallest Man on Earth with Henry St., his sixth studio albumfollowing 2012s Theres No Leaving Now, full of vivid imagery, clever turns-of-phrase,and devastating, world-weary observations (Under The Radar) and 2015s Dark Bird Is AHome, his most personal record... surreal and dreamlike (Pitchfork). Henry St. notablymarks the first time he recorded an album in a band setting. My entire career Ive beena DIY personmostly fueled by the feeling that I didnt know what I was doing, so Id justdo everything myself. But now, longing for the energy thats only released when creatingtogether with others, Matsson invited his friends to come and play.
Nick Sanborn (of Sylvan Esso) produced Henry St., which includes contributions from RyanGustafson (of The Dead Tongues) on guitar, lap steel and ukulele, TJ Maiani on drums, CJCamerieri (of Bon Iver) on trumpet and French horn, Phil Cook on piano and organ, RobMoose (of Bon Iver, yMusic) on strings and Adam Schatz on saxophone.
A gorgeous and gripping portrait of Fennes last two years, BigPicture was pieced together in an effort to self-soothe. Tracked live inco-producer Brad Cooks North Carolina studio, the album delineatesthe phases of love and becomes a map of comfort vs claustrophobia.
Though its creation took place amid personal and global turmoil, theruminative yet candid Big Picture is Fennes most cohesive, resolutework to date, both lyrically and sonically. This isnt a sad album its about as uplifting as my way of doing things will allow, she says. These songs explore worry and doubt and letting go, but thosethemes are framed brightly. With confidence and quiet strength, eachtrack provides an insight into Fennes ever-changing view of love and, ultimately, its redefinition love as a process, not something to belost and found.
While the album was written alone in Fennes Bristol flat a factintentionally reflected in its compact sonic quality Big Picture wastransformed from a solitary venture into a unifying collaboration duringthe recording process when she was joined by her touring band, MelinaDutere of Jay Som (mixing), Christian Lee Hutson (guitar and coproduction), and Katy Kirby (vocals).
Notably, these 10 songs are Fennes first and only to have beenwritten over the course of a relationship; 2018s On Hold and 2020sBREACH both confront the pain of retrospection, saying goodbye to alove thats gone. Big Picture does the exact opposite rooted firmlyin the present, it traces the narrative of two people trying their hardestnot to implode, together.

A River Running To Your Heart [Indie Exclusive Limited Edition Opaque Blue & Bone LP]
Vinyl: $22.98 PREORDER
A River Running to Your Heart represents the fullest realization of Johnson's creative vision to date. It's a sonically diverse effort that largely explores the importance of what it means to be home, both physically and spiritually. Self-produced by Johnson-a first for Fruit Bats-with Jeremy Harris at Panoramic House just north of San Francisco, A River Running to Your Heart is Fruit Bats' tenth full-length release. The album finds the project in the middle of a people-powered climb leading to the biggest shows, loudest accolades, and most enthusiastic new fans in Fruit Bats history! It's hard to pinpoint a single reason for this mid-career resurgence. But after two decades of making music, hard-earned emotional maturity has clearly seeped into Johnson's already inviting songs, resulting in a sound that's connected with audiences like no other previous version of the band.

The Wood Brothers
Heart is the Hero [Indie Exclusive Limited Edition Clear LP]
Vinyl: $23.98 PREORDER
The Wood Brothers have learned to trust their hearts. For the better part of two decades, they've cemented their reputation as freethinking songwriters, road warriors, and community builders, creating a catalog of diverse music and a loyal audience whove grown alongside them through the years. That evolution continues with Heart is the Hero, the band's eighth studio album. Recorded analog to 16-track tape, this latest effort finds its three creators embracing the chemistry of their acclaimed live shows by capturing their performances in real-time direct from the studio floor with nary a computer in sight. An acoustic-driven album that electrifies, Heart is the Hero is stocked with songs that target not only the heart, but the head and hips, too.
"We love records that come from the era of less tracks and more care," explains co-founder Oliver Wood. "When you use a computer during the tracking process, you have an infinite number of tracks at your disposal, which implies that nothing is permanent, and everything can be fixed. Tape gives you limitations that force you to be creative and intentional. You don't look at the music on a screen; you listen to it, and you learn to focus on the feeling of the performance.
Throughout Heart is the Hero, those performances are matched by the visceral storytelling and songwriting chops that have turned The Wood Brothers into Grammy-nominated leaders of American roots music, even as their music reaches far beyond the genre's borders. The stripped-down swagger of "Pilgrim'' underscores Oliver's reminder to slow down and experience each moment as an interactive observer, rather than a passive tourist. A similar theme anchors Between the Beats," where Oliver draws upon a meditation technique maintaining one's focus on the space between heartbeats to reach a new level of presence. The gentle sway of country soul gem Rollin On, featuring horns by Matt Glassmeyer and Roy Agee, expounds on the time-honored tradition of love as the guiding light through darkness, while Mean Man World" finds Chris Wood singing about his responsibilities as a father whose young daughter is poised to inherit an uncertain future. "Line Those Pockets'' is a universal call for mercy and understanding over materialism. "Everybody's just trying to be happy, so put your money away; line those pockets with grace," the band sings in three-part harmony during the song's chorus, which emphasizes compassion over cash as the world's true currency. Together, these songs offer a snapshot of a spirited, independent-minded group at the peak of its powers, always pushing forward and seeking to evolve beyond whats come before.
"There's still acoustic guitar, upright bass, and percussion on this album things people use all the time but we're always thinking, 'How can we make this sound like us, but not like something we've already done?'" Oliver says. "Sometimes, the only way to do that is to get weird.
That sense of exploration pumps its way through Heart is the Hero like lifeblood. Arriving on the heels of 2019's Live at The Fillmore, 2020's Kingdom In My Mind, and Oliver Wood's solo album Always Smilin' all of which were released on Honey Jar Records, the band's independent label Heart is the Hero is bold, bright, and singularly creative, a fully realized collective effort ultimately greater than the sum of its parts. Perhaps that's to be expected from a group whose willingness to experiment has earned acclaim from Rolling Stone and NPR, as well as an annual touring schedule of sold-out music halls and theaters on both sides of the Atlantic. Ask The Wood Brothers, though, and they'll tell you to expect the unexpected.
"We are never satisfied if we are not searching for new musical recipes," says Jano Rix, nodding to the uncharted territory that Heart is the Hero covers. Chris Wood agrees, adding, "We are one of those bands that isn't easily categorized. We know what our strengths are, but we cant help but push the envelope, as well. Its too much fun."

Everything but the Girl return in 2023 with the new album Fuse, after a 24-year hiatus. Written and produced by Ben Watt and Tracey Thorn over the spring-summer of 2021, Fuse is a modern take on the lustrous electronic soul the band first pioneered in the mid-90s. Thorn's affecting and richly textured voice is once again up front in Watt's glimmering landscape of sub-bass, sharp beats, half-lit synths and empty space, and as before, the result is the sound of a band comfortable with being both sonically contemporary, yet agelessly themselves.

Stephen Stills is an unyielding force of nature.
The amount of music pouring out of this man couldve fueled a half-dozen bands. Following the June1971 release of his second solo album, Stephen Stills 2, he announced his first solo tour designed toshowcase all aspects of the ever-growing artist. Fans who were lucky enough to catch his historic debuttrek, dubbed The Memphis Horns Tour, were treated to the balladeer, the raving troubadour, theacoustic bluesman, the soul driver, and by far the most passionate music maker offering his goods acrossthe better auditoriums and arenas that summer.
This previously unissued live album, with performances hand-picked by Stills from his personal archives, was recorded on August 20 and 21, 1971 at The Berkeley Community Theater. This 3,500-seat venuemade this one of the most unique and intimate stops on the tour that included his iconic concert at NewYorks Madison Square Garden. In many ways, these Northern California shows in Berkeley sound as ifStills is leaving it all on the stage during a hometown gig.
In addition to The Memphis Horns, Stills is backed by a loyal cast of friends, including his usual steadyrhythm sectiondrummer Dallas Taylor and bassist Calvin Fuzzy Samuelsalong with keyboardistPaul Harris, guitarist Steve Fromholz, and percussionist Joe Lala. Guesting on both nights of theserecordings was David Crosby, singing on his own nautical classic The Lee Shore, and the Stills-pennedYou Dont Have To Cry, a Crosby, Stills & Nash favorite.
The music on these groovestimeless and era-defining performances Word Game, Love The OneYoure With, Sugar Babe, Cherokee, among others, hasnt aged a day since they were captured ontape. This album, rather than being an artifact from a bygone era, sparkles and stimulates. It cajoles youinto thinking, feeling andmost importantlymoving. This is music thats been unearthed because itssimply too good not to be blasting out of cars and exploding from apartment windows and onto thestreets.
Stephen Stills Live At Berkeley 1971 is a cornucopia of priceless soundand all of it bears thedistinct and loving fingerprint of Stephen Stills.

I was finally able to trust myself fully, says Indigo DeSouza of making her masterful third albumAllof This Will End.Across 11 its songs, the LPis a raw and radically optimistic workthat grapples with mortality, the rejuvenation that community brings, and theimportance of centering yourself now. These tracks come from the most resonantmoments of her life: childhood memories, collecting herself in parking lots, the ecstatic trips spent wandering Appalachian mountains and southern swampswith friends, and the times she had to stand up forherself. All of This Will Endfeels more true tome than anything ever has, she says.
In many ways,All ofThis Will Endhas become a personal motto for Indigo. Every day I wake upwith the thought that this could be the end, she says. You could look at itas a sad thing, or you could look at itas a really precious thing: Today I'malive and at some point, I will not be in this body anymore. But for now, I cando so much with being alive. Theres a peacefulness in acceptance throughout. As she sings onthe title track, Im only loving only moving through andtrying my best / Sometimes its not enough but Im still real and I forgive. She describes the experience of writing this song as magic, as if everythingabout it from the words and melody had felt timeless and intangible and thatshe was just writing it down. Like the hues of reds and oranges that her motherpainted on the LP cover,All of This WillEndmarks awarmer and unmistakably audacious era for her. Its a statementabout fearlessly moving forward from the past into a gratitude-filled present, feeling it all every step of the way, and choosing to embody lovingawareness.

The group's third studio release, Buhloone Mindstate released on September 21, 1993,saw the group evolve into a new sound as they continued to grow stylistically and musically. There were several moments on the album which proved the band had matured. "I Be Blowin'" was a departure as the track was an instrumental featuring saxophone playing by Maceo Parker. The introspective "I Am I Be" showed de la Soul at their most self-referential to date. "Long Island Wildin'" was a collaboration with Japanese hip hop artists Kan Takagi (Major Force) and trio Scha Dara Parr (SDP). The album's first single, "Breakadawn", used a sample of Michael Jackson's "I Can't Help It" and Smokey Robinson's "Quiet Storm". de La Soul collaborated for the first time with Gang Starr's Guru on "Patti Dooke", and female MC Shortie No Mas who was prominent on many tracks on the album and showcased particularly on "In The Woods". The album ended with an old school Biz Markie collaboration called "Stone Age".

The third full-length from Olivia Jean, Raving Ghost, is an album populated by mysterious characters in various states of danger: cursed lovers, doomed souls, women deliriously haunted by unseen forces. Over the course of its 12 spellbinding tracks, the Detroit-born singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist amplifies that drama with her wildly melodic take on garage-rock, handling each riff with the power and precision shes previously shown as a member of the Black Belles (and as an in-demand session/touring musician whos played with legends like Wanda Jackson). A stunning evolution of the retro-surf sound of her past solo work, Raving Ghost ultimately makes for the most magnificently heavy and mesmerizing output yet from an endlessly fascinating artist.
Durand Joness Wait Til I Get Over is a memoir and a love letter. It is the story of Joness life, his growth and revelations, thewisdom of his hometown and the wisdom he could only gainonce he left. In it, he writes through Hillaryvilles contradictions:the pristine beauty and the ragged roads; his teenage desireto leave and his adult desire to honor his tangled roots; theplantation history and the ups and downs of the Black communitythat made homes of this reparation town. Hometowns have away of keeping a part of you, says Jones, and if Im makingsomething young-me would be proud of, Hillaryville is a big partof that. Jones finds something transformative in his memoriesthere and the life he has led since, ultimately claiming andembracing his whole self.
The result is vulnerable, personal, touching on Jonessrelationship to church life, to his mother, to his queerness, tohis worth. I wish I could tell my younger self you dont have tostick to the dreams people have for you, says Jones, you candream bigger. You are more than capable, you are more thanable. I think about some nerdy punk kid in the rural south whoneeds to hear that now. Wait Til I Get Over does exactly that.

Logan Halstead will release his anticipated debut album, Dark Black Coal, May 5 via Thirty Tigers.
Age is a number, and Logan Halstead constantly reminds us of that. At just 15 years old, he wrote his first song, "Dark Black Coal", a powerful and haunting song about life for many of the people where he is from who had to work in the coal mines of southern West Virginia. Logan Halstead, 18 years old, is a country/folk/americana singer-songwriter who grew up in Comfort, WV. Logan pulls most of his music from the struggle and hardship of his life and those around him. Small-town living isn't intensely stimulating socially or economically, but spiritually there is always a yearning for more.
Being from WV and KY, it's no surprise that Tyler Childers and Sturgill Simpson influence him, but he has also found a lot of inspiration from Nicholas Jamerson and Cole Chaney. "All these folks mentioned have laid a path and shown that it's okay to be from these parts; we're not so looked down on anymore..." says Logan. It's given him the ability to be proud of who he is and has led him to be a driving force in the scene of young artists from the Appalachian region.
Logan doesn't like to put himself in a box sonically or stylistically. Still, many would adorn it as Appalachian/Americana music. Above all, it is raw and honest, and the writing wrapped in wisdom one might only think someone two decades older than could conjure. While the masses clamored for more content, Halstead took his time and found the right partners for his debut album. He decided to cut his project at the famous Sound Emporium Studios in Nashville, TN. He was accompanied by the one and only Lawrence Rothman (Amanda Shires, Margo Price, Angel Olson, and many more). When asked about the recording process, Logan said, "It was a great experience; Lawrence is top-notch. They made me feel comfortable just to go in and do what I do, and to get to record in a place like that is a dream come true, especially for a holler kid". Lawrence, who saw success at a very young age, was a perfect fit because they understood Logan's position and angst and allowed Logan to express himself freely.
In 2020 Logan released "Dark Black Coal" on Youtube, which has since amassed almost 6 million views. The success of that single has allowed Logan to build a great fan base through YouTube, touring, and opening for folks like Zach Bryan, Charles Wesley Godwin, Town Mountain, and many more. With the record's release over a year after he created the album, Our Vinyl came into his life at the perfect time. Halstead released a taste of his upcoming project, and with that four-song EP, Logan gained over 120,000 monthly listeners on Spotify.
With the success of "Dark Black Coal" it's no surprise that it became the title for his first album. He signed with Thirty Tigers and is excited to partner with them on his release. The release date is slated for May 5th, and he will be touring those songs throughout May. Expect to see his name on festival billings, support tours, and in a town near you. "I want my music to keep evolving and improve my craft. I want to be the best I can be and give my fans shows to remember" says Halstead. Like all musicians, they hope to achieve a successful career but don't expect Logan Halstead to change who he is or what he believes in to reach it. Authentically himself, he strives to always be honest and authentic to his fans.

Parker Millsap
Wilderness Within You [Indie Exclusive Limited Edition Autographed Maroon LP]
Vinyl: $22.98 PREORDER
Its been a time of intense, worldwide change over the past few years or maybe it all depends on scale. Zooming out to a geological timeline, maybe not much has changed at all. On his sixth album Wilderness Within You, acclaimed singer/songwriter Parker Millsap explores this flux between the here and now and the big BIG picture, while reckoning with questions about humanitys place on this planet. The result is a study in contrasts: the personal versus the cosmic, sparse acoustic compositions sitting next to lush psychedelic improvisations. Above all, Wilderness Within You is an understanding of darkness while expressing an abundance of gratitude for life itself.
Born and raised in Purcell, Okla., a tiny town with a huge sky, Millsap learned early on how to express gratitude through song while playing gospel in the church band. Long-time fans will recognize the albums foundations acoustic instrumentation and solid songwriting centered around Millsaps show-stopping voice. Theyll also spot the evolution towards more experimentation and sampling from other musical cultures. Beyond the opening Greetings and Thanks, which puts to music The Thanksgiving Address of the indigenous peoples of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy all proceeds from the song will be donated to the Haudenosaunee Environmental Task Force the album continues on with a series of auditory landscapes and thoughtful insights including Running on Time, which contrasts a sweet message about patience with distorted electronic harmonies. The second half of Wilderness turns darker and moodier with the industrial, buzz-saw Half a World Away, which finds Millsap questioning who murders for my meat? who gets it here from there? At the other end of the sonic spectrum is the beautiful, roots-y title track, a duet with the legendary Gillian Welch. The track illustrates Millsaps understanding of nature as something that humans are not separate from - that life is stunningly beautiful most of the time, but does contain streaks of darkness that are just as natural: Theres a field thats full of violets, theres a bruise thats purple brown / Theres a little bit of violence, and a lot of fertile ground.
In a broader sense, Wilderness Within You poses many weighty questions without easy answers. While Millsap can feel deeply discouraged by the way things are going wrong in the world, especially with the climate crisis, Wilderness Within You is threaded with hope and thankfulness for all we do have. This idea is beautifully etched on Magic, an anthem about the power of paying attention a torch song perfect for listeners to join in and belt along to.
I really do want people to feel the magic, Millsap said, echoing lyrics from the song. Its out there.

I Only See the Moon [Indie Exclusive Limited Edition Maroon LP]
Vinyl: $23.98 PREORDER
Completing their seventh studio album was a hard-won victory for The Milk Carton Kids, but I Only See the Moon was worth the effort for Kenneth Pattengale and Joey Ryan. It feels like returning to something thats natural and comfortable, and also just as inspiring and new as when we first met, says Pattengale, who formed The Milk Carton Kids with Ryan in 2011.
What started as a three-week recording session in the fall of 2021, with Pattengale producing the contemporary folk duo himself for the first time, stretched into a monthslong project that found the pair digging deeper into their craft than ever before. With a new studio of their own in Los Angeles and the realization that they were in no hurry, The Milk Carton Kids took the time they needed to be fully satisfied with I Only See the Moon.
I havent been as happy with the collection of songs that weve put on record probably since our first record, and its because of a lot of the lessons weve learned over the years, including giving yourself time and space, Ryan says. The three-time Grammy nominees sound refreshed on 10 new songs distilled to the essence of The Milk Carton Kids: two voices blended together in spellbinding harmony, accompanied by subtly perfect acoustic instrumentation. Turns out thats a tough sound to get just right, but I Only See the Moon shows just how much Pattengale and Ryan were willing to work for it.

Jason Isbell And The 400 Unit
Weathervanes [Indie Exclusive Limited Edition Natural LP]
Vinyl: $29.98 PREORDER
A Jason Isbell record always lands like a decoder ring in the ears and hearts of his audience, a soundtrack to his world and magically to theirs, too. Weathervanes carries the same revelatory power. This is a storyteller at the peak of his craft, observing his fellow wanderers, looking inside and trying to understand, reducing a universe to four minutes. He shrinks life small enough to name the fear and then strip it away, helping his listeners make sense of how two plus two stops equaling four once you reach a certain age -- and carry a certain amount of scars.
There is something about boundaries on this record, Isbell says. As you mature, you still attempt to keep the ability to love somebody fully and completely while youre growing into an adult and learning how to love yourself.
Weathervanes is a collection of grown-up songs: Songs about adult love, about change, about the danger of nostalgia and the interrogation of myths, about cruelty and regret and redemption. Life and death songs played for and by grown ass people. Some will make you cry alone in your car and others will make you sing along with thousands of strangers in a big summer pavilion, united in the great miracle of being alive. The record features the rolling thunder of Isbells fearsome 400 Unit, whove earned a place in the rock n roll cosmos alongside the greatest backing ensembles, as powerful and essential to the storytelling as The E Street Band or the Wailers.
They make a big noise, as Isbell puts it, and he feels so comfortable letting them be a main prism through which much of the world hears his art. He can be private but with them behind him he transforms, and there is a version of himself that can only exist in their presence. When he plays a solo show, he is in charge of the entire complicated juggle. On stage with the 400 Unit, he can be a guitar hero when he wants, and a conductor when he wants, and a smiling fan of the majesty of his bandmates when he wants to hang back and listen to the sound.
Brooklyn bedroom-pop trailblazers Beach Fossils' new album Bunny is a triumphant return for one of the 2010s most influential NYC bands. Bunny is a precise blend of the luscious dream-pop atmospheres they notoriously honed on their earliest projects, the post-punk vigor expressed on Clash The Truth, and the warm sophisticated songwriting of Somersault. Composer Dustin Payseur peppers the album equallywith descriptions of the joy of fatherhood and the existential pleasure of smoking cigarettes out of a car windowwith friends --Bunny features Beach Fossils' most personal lyrics to-date.
Colin McCann didnt pick up a guitar for nearly ten years. TheNorthern-California-based songwriter, previously performingunder Long Dog Bird, had been creating music with longtimefriend and collaborator Brian Gossman for much of their adultlives with early-00s Baltimore-based band Wilderness. So whatwould cause such a stagnant period? And how could McCannfind his way back to the joy that music had once so easilyconjured? The answer was to go back to the very beginning, where the kinetic forces that urged McCann to make music inthe first place could emerge once again. But first, he had tomake space in his internal world; a kind of silence where hecould hear the exhale of his past, and the blossoming of a newsong.
That blossoming would soon become the first songs forMcCanns latest project Vulture Feather. The bands debutalbumLiminal Fields exists on an intangible plane: a crack inthe concrete, a gauze between worlds. For as long as McCanncan recall, hes been using music as a vehicle to try andconnect with an underlying, indescribable nature that only thesonic world seems to be able to reach. Theres a feeling ofecstasy that comes when one merges with music, he says. Its what calls us all back again and again to listen, to sing, andto play. McCann had been striving to reach this outlyingenvironment throughout his career, often stretching in waysthat eventually came to negatively impact his life, and hishealth.
7 Inch includes a studio version of the track 'We're Gonna Get There In The End' and an acoustic version of 'Pretty Boy'

Autographed Color LP
More than anything, I wanted to make an album that was generous, that was useful, says Ben Folds. I want you to finish this record with something you didnt have when you started. Indeed, Folds masterful new collection, What Matters Most, isnt so much a statement as it is an offering, an open hand reaching out to all those wounded and bewildered by a world that seems to make less and less sense every day. Recorded in East Nashville with co-producer Joe Pisapia, the album marks Folds first new studio release in eight years, and its a bold, timely, cinematic work, one that examines the tragic and the absurd in equal measure as it reckons with hope and despair, gratitude and loss, identity and perspective. The songs are bittersweet here, hilarious at times, but often laced with a quiet sense of longing and dread: a text message goes unanswered; an old classmate descends into the dark depths of internet conspiracies; a relationship unravels in the middle of a lake. And yet, taken as a whole, the result is an undeniably joyful record that refuses to succumb to the weight of the world around it, an ecstatic reminder of all the beauty and promise hiding in plain sight for anyone willing (and present enough) to recognize their moments as they arrive.

Tommy Prines debut album This Far South'' coming June 23, 2023 is not only a long awaited introduction but a testimony to Prines 20s and the loss, love, and growth that has defined them. Co-produced by close friend and kindred musical spirit, Ruston Kelly, and beloved Nashville engineer and producer, Gena Johnson, the album is rich and dynamic from cathartic jams to nostalgic storytelling.
It wasnt until Prine reached his mid-twenties, though, that he considered a career of his own in music and began to share with others the songs he wrote in private. His songs were quickly met with excitement and enthusiasm, which sonically brings together a colorful patchwork of musical influences and lyrically explores existential questions and emotional experiences.
The albums title track, This Far South'' marks a turning point in Prines life as he found himself struggling to escape a dark, aimless period. He ultimately found the courage to act on choices that would see him to the other, brighter, side.
There were several years where I felt without purpose, spent all my time partying, and just existing. I found myself at a fork in the road and chose the better path, and in that moment, I swore I would never be This Far South again.
Grief is a major throughline of Prines current work. In 2017, Prine lost his best friend to an overdose.
Since then, I have lost some more friends and have others who are still navigating the ups and downs of struggles with drug abuse.
His song, Letter To My Brother, was written as a message to the friends hes lost, those in Recovery, and to friends who are still struggling.
He still grapples with the passing of his father in April of 2020. The world lost one of the greatest songwriters of all time, but I lost my dad. Prine bears the loss of his father and the memories he carries for others on the track, By The Way.
When I'm playing certain songs, I can literally look out in the crowd and tell who else has lost their dad, he says. I can immediately tell which people have experienced, specifically, losing their father. They'll come up and tell me afterwards, and I'll be like, Yeah, like, I figured that this conversation was going to happen, because I could see their reaction. Its been really powerful to see real-deal evidence that grief is a shared experience, and that suffering is a shared experience between humans.
Prine capped off 2022 with his first solo tour across the United States. He was heavily involved with You Got Gold, an event series in Nashville honoring the life and songs of John Prine, and performed at AmericanaFest as an official showcasing artist. He also debuted two original songs, Ships in the Harbor and Turning Stones.
Ships in the Harbor is a tender meditation on impermanence and change, with Prine communicating the universal experience of loss through poetic observations of the seemingly mundane. The song found its way onto a series of editorial playlists including Spotifys Fresh Folk playlist and Amazons Fresh Folk & Ameriana playlist. It was also praised by a number of outlets including Billboard, Garden & Gun, and Saving Country Music who wrote, With one song, Tommy Prine has already accomplished what many musicians and songwriters work their entire careers to accomplish, which is to make such an indelible emotional connection with an audience.
This year, alongside his own runs of headline shows, Prine opened for Tyler Childer on his Send In The Hounds Tour in London. He was also named one of Amazon Musics 2023 Breakthrough Artists to Watch.
I feel like I've learned more about myself in the last year and a half than I ever have in my life, Prine says. And I think that speaks a lot to doing something that I'm passionate about. I love and respect the craft. Just hitting the road and doing what so many people before me have done and will continue to do, it's really resonated with me. I think it's transformed me into the person that I am meant to be.
RSD Essential 039 * The Avett Brothers' 2007 release "Emotionalism" is the album that caught the attention of legendary producer Rick Rubin and got him to sign the band to their first major studio. "Emotionalism" also was their first album to crack the charts. Full of new Folk, Blues and Bluegrass riffs for a modern world, it is a lively take on everything from romance to paranoia. Of course, they still kick in some solid Rock 'N' Roll for good measure.
Solid Gold, the long-awaited solo debut album from acclaimed musician Miles Miller will be released July 7 via Thirty Tigers.
Produced by Sturgill Simpson, the album features twelve original songs and marks the first body of work released by Miller as a solo artist. The album was recorded over the course of three days in January 2022 in Nashville, TN.
Of the album, Miller shares, Solid Gold is a love story, but about love being around and love leaving. Its an entire story essentially about wanting to get back to the love you have, realizing you shouldnt give it away, to love leaving, hitting the road because of it leaving, feeling love on the road, love from home, to realizing you need to keep walking and wish them well. Its an album about the cycle of a love story that crumbles.
Raised in central Kentucky, Miller has spent the better part of the past decade on the road as a drummer for artists including Sturgill Simpson and Town Mountain. In 2009, he was discovered by acclaimed producer Dave Cobb after playing drum covers on YouTube at the age of 16. While drumming and vocals are what he has been most noted for, playing guitar is his first love.
Spending time off of the road allowed him to hone in on his songwriting and it became clear that the time had come to step away from the drum kit and focus on his own artistic vision. This June, Miller will embark on a handful of dates supporting Tyler Childers. Additional tour dates to be announced.
